It's Never Enough

What is it with kids? Nothing you give and do is ever enough. They always want more.

But aren't we all like that in life, wanting more? Weather you are 16 months old (Danielle), or whether you're 4 year old Marisa, or even if you're an 'adult'.

Well, today I went grocery and camp shopping with my close girlfriend. It was great having no kids for 3 hours. :-)

I felt in a 'generous' mood so I brought Marisa a nice bedsheet for her bed, I also gave her what I already had, a Dora pillowcase and comforter. (She recently got a new double mattress...still have to buy the frame...hoping for bunk beds.) To continue, she also got from mommy and daddy a "Way to Go" gift - 2 Pet shop animals (cats...sorry couldn't find dogs). This was a reward for achieving an important milestone (potty training at night).

So, what did I buy Danielle? Honestly, not much...what does she really need?! Still, since I was in a 'generous' mood, I bought her a Dora and Boots placemat...(Marisa has a Diego one). Next store we went I found a cooler one with all the Dora characters and colours....I'm teaching Danielle colours and shapes right now so obviously I just had to buy it. FYI: She knows Purple, yellow, blue. circle. And she can even say purple and circle. She is so smart AND STUBBORN. She can also say Hi, bye, wave bye, blow kisses with her hand, say mama, dada, nana, more, out, yes, jump, climb, run, make messes, and more crazy exhausting things. She can even mooo for a cow, bow for a dog, and imitate the elephant's trunk. Her favourite is to growl like a tiger. Did I mention she doesn't like the word NO?

Anyway, so we were at our friends for dinner tonight, came back and got the kids to bed, and went back for our Big Brother. I come home and find out from my mom that Marisa was complaining because she saw Danielle's placemats and says, "I like colours too".

Geez, why can't PEOPLE, adult and child, just be damn happy with what you have and not always want more. How can you teach someone that if you don't enjoy the RIGHT NOW, that you'll never truly be happy????
