Death and Living

We all know death is the one thing in life that is a guarantee.

So while it is important to prepare for the inevitable, what's even more important is how you choose to live your life in the present.

The present. Right now. Right here. This is all we have for sure. Nothing else is certain.

So what prompted this depressing subject? Right now, as I write this, my husband is at the hospital where his mother just came through surgery (stomach cancer). The next 3 days are critical.

To those who know us are aware that MIL (mother-in-law) has chosen to be an inactive part of our lives. Sadly, she has given up on life since her son left home to get married almost 10 years ago. The two amazing grandchildren have sadly not been embraced but it is as if they are non-existent. This breaks my heart. For many reasons. For myself. For my kids. Yes, even for MIL. And of course for Mark and FIL who have the most amazing hearts I've ever known a person to have.

Regardless of all of it, I pray that people, MIL included, choose to cherish what really matters -- each other -- family, friends, neighbours, even strangers....people. People matter. We should all treat each other with dignity and respect. We shouldn't take the ones we love for granted.

Do you know when your time is up? I know how I want to be remembered. :-)

To me, the purpose of life is happiness...we all want to be happy. So let's all make sure we do what makes us happy. And remember,

"If you keep doing what you've always done,
You'll keep getting what you've always got.

So, if you want to start getting what you've never got,

You've got to start doing what you've never done!"
