There are two types of "Work".
1) Working outside the home at a 'job' or an 'employer' = You get a paycheque and have various types of benefits.
2) Working at home and raising kids = No paycheque. Different types of benefits.
At the young and innocent age of 15 years old - now 22 years ago, my work career began...I was finally legal so I had to sign up immediately! I always thrived and loved working. I know, it sounds crazy now. But this is how I have always been.
So the fact that I have basically been at home with the kids for a total of 4 years is amazing to me. Wow, explains a lot doesn't it? No wonder I'm insane. :-0
Sure, I love my kids and feel that it is a greater benefit having one parent home - for many different reasons. With that said, however, I also feel that in this day and age that is a difficult thing to achieve and just isn't suited for everyone. Like anything in life though, it is doable. Really, anything we want is doable. It all depends how bad we want it for ourselves and those around us.
So, after my one year off with Marisa, I did the 'normal' thing and went back to work when Marisa was one. I then went off work for various reasons (and still thankfully have my job waiting for me) and have continued to be off since January 2005, now almost 3 1/2 years ago.
I have to say that during this time at home I feel I have grown and experienced so much. So much that I otherwise would not have been able to experience had I been working outside the home. I am so grateful for all of this. I am most thankful for all the time I have had to experience watching my beautiful girls grow up. And to be a part of that more than I thought I would ever be able to.
At this point there is one thing stopping me from getting back to my job. I have a physical problem and am in the middle of treatment. No, the mental problem is beyond repair. ;-)
So, in the meantime, I plan on enjoying the joy and the amazing time I get to watch my beautiful children grow up every chance I get in between my thousand appointments!
In this busy and fast-paced world, we often forget to slow down and even stop once in a while to really enjoy life, the small things and the most amazing blessings, our family, friends and most of all, our children!
